Sustainability

We live nature.

Plants, soil, water and air

… as well as the ecosystem as a whole we see as the basis of our economic activity. Therefore it is a matter of course for Hinrichs to run the company ecologically and sustainably, to protect the environment permanently in order to keep it healthy.

Protection of the soil and preservation of soil fertility

  • Green manuring between the plant populations
  • Humus formation by incorporation of organic matter (e.g. in-house compost, farmyard manure)
  • Gentle soil cultivation using suitable machines and taking weather conditions into account
  • Subdivision of the quarters by means of windbreak hedges to reduce wind erosion
  • Sowing wildflowers on unused margins
  • Mineral fertilization strictly according to the needs of the plants on the basis of soil investigations

Container areas

  • Use of need-based depot fertilizers that reduce nutrient leaching as far as possible and enable plants to be supplied with an even supply of nutrients.
  • Mulching of the pots for a balanced soil moisture, reduction of weed growth and evaporation

Irrigation

  • Drainage of the irrigation water from our own water circuit
  • Collection and filtration of rainwater, irrigation water and return water
  • Avoidance of infiltration of service water into the soil
  • Regular checking of water quality

In-house transport

  • Use of electric vehicles to reduce emissions to air
  • Generation of electricity from renewable energies (solar) in our company
