The absolute foci at Hinrichs include the flowering shrubs from 3 to 20 litre containers in top qualities. Multiple pruning during cultivation results in strong branching. This also makes the difference for the end customer, who receives a strong plant that already has excellent growth characteristics.

Thanks to the variety of flowering shrubs, Hinrichs can offer seasonal or mixed assortments at the customer’s request. Topics such as “foliage beauties”, “bird food plants” or “garden gnomes” are currently very popular. The general trend is towards small varieties. The small Weigelia varieties include the colourful Weigela ‘Monet’, the red-leaved Weigela ‘Alexandra’ and the yellow panached Weigela ‘Magical Rainbow’, the lilac varieties include Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’, ‘Miss Elly’ and ‘Josee’ and the garden jasmine’s little brothers include Philadelphus ‘Belle Etoile’, ‘Erectus’ and ‘Manteau d’Hermine’.

The flowering shrubs are ideal as solitaires or for free-growing flowering hedges.

In the summer range, particular emphasis is placed on appearance and the optimum time to sell in order to arouse emotions and encourage impulse buying. Modern cultivation techniques make it possible to stagger leaf and flowering dates and control growing conditions if necessary. The summer assortment includes various varieties of Caryopteris, Buddleja – including the compact Buzz® varieties, Perovskia, Hibiscus and Hydrangea paniculata. These ranges are available in larger quantities. The main pot sizes here are the 3 to 12 litre containers.

Hedge plants are needed in good quality, sufficient quantity and at an attractive price. Hinrichs meets this demand in all areas. Especially Prunus laurocerasus in varieties but also Fagus, Carpinus, Liguster and Thuja are produced in large quantities. The price is not at the expense of quality – rather, advantages are derived from the shape of the container. The better use of space for square pots instead of round ones on a CC, for example, considerably reduces transport costs.

For conifers, Thuja occ. ‘Smaragd’ is available in first-class quality in sizes ranging from 30-40 in a 2-litre container to 150-175 in a 20-litre container.

For the cherry laurel, the right choice of variety is very important for positive success with the customer. For this reason, the range is constantly being expanded with new products. Here are just two examples:

Prunus laurocerasus ‘Greentorch’: upright, well-branched growth, narrow, resistant foliage, absolutely compatible with pruning, resistant to disease, low fruit set, very frost-resistant, suitable as hedge and solitary.

Prunus laurocerasus ‘Cleopatra’: medium-strong, broad-bosomed growth, strikingly beautiful copper-red colour when sprouting, frost-hardy, healthy, suitable for small hedges, green areas and plant containers.

The Hinrichs assortment comprises a large number of different rhododendrons.

A special feature are the INKARHO® rhododendrons, which also grow successfully on soils with less humus and calcareous soils. They form a dense root system, are generally stronger, more resistant and less sensitive to salt.

The brand INKARHO® stands for ‘Interessengemeinschaft Kalktoleranter Rhododendron’ – community of interests for limeresistant rhododendrons -, in which Hinrichs has been a member since the 1980s and is committed to improving the varieties. More information can be found on the website: http://www.inkarho.de/ .

The beautiful compact Rhododendron ponticum ‘Graziella’ should also be mentioned. It adorns a narrow decorative leaf and purple to pink flowers, which appear in large numbers in May.

With Rhododendron micranthum ‘Bloombux’ a novelty enriches the assortment. It combines the advantages of the box tree – evergreen, compact growth and suitable for topiary – with the lush flowering of the rhododendron. Detailed information can be found on the website: http://www.bloombux.de/

Dwarf Rhododendrons such as Rhododendron obtusum and the weaker growing Rhododendron obtusum ‘Diamant’ round off the selected range.

Due to the location in the Ammerland, the most important cultivation area for moorland plants, it is always possible to complete the assortment according to your wishes.

The ornamental trunks include many interesting half and high trunks with trunk heights of 80 to 180 cm. They are healthy graftings on strong trunks with lush crown formation.

The selection of high trunks includes a variety of house trees. These include classic spherical forms such as Acer platanoides ‘Globosum’ or Robinia pseudoac, Umbraculifera, trees with attractive flowers such as ornamental apples or cherries, hanging forms such as Prunus serrulata ‘Kiku-shidare-zakura’ or Mediterranean-like forms such as Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’.

In the case of the half stems, evergreen varieties of Cotoneaster or Euonymus fortunei are also added. Even more flowering varieties such as Campsis radicans ‘Indian Summer’ or Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’ – small stems and conifers – varieties of Larix enrich the offer.

In the open field Hinrichs mainly produces conifers for gardening and landscaping customers as well as for export. Garden nurseries and garden centres also have the opportunity to enrich their range with a large selection of conifers.

Conifers are cultivated from grafting to solitaire. So it can be that plants are cared for 15 years in the tree nursery until they are delivered ready for sale to the customer. It is clear that this creates a bond with the plants and that Hinrichs value them highly.

The focus is on the extensive Pinus assortment with over 40 varieties in various qualities, including specials such as Pinus flexilis ‘Van der Wolf’s Pyramid’, Pinus nigra ‘Obelisk’ or Pinus strobus ‘Tiny Curls’. But also the offer of Abies, Chamaecyparis, Juniperus, Picea and Taxus is huge.
